Mitchell teen charged with aggravated assault
An 18-year-old Mitchell man has been charged with aggravated assault after kicking a police officer.
Eric Reimnitz was arrested on one felony charge for aggravated assault on a police officer and misdemeanor charges for underage consumption of alcohol, threatening a police officer, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
The aggravated assault charge carries a maximum penalty upon conviction of 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Officers responded to 723 E. Ash Ave., at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday after a call regarding an intoxicated man.
Mitchell Police Division Sgt. Ryan Erickson said Reimnitz was verbally abusing the officers on the scene. He was arrested and Reimnitz later kicked an officer in the stomach, causing officers to put the man in leg restraints.
Reimnitz was in custody at the Davison County Jail Sunday evening, according to Erickson.
