Mitchell teen arrested for passing bad checks
A Mitchell man has been arrested for passing more than $1,000 in bad checks.
According to court documents, Buck James, 18, passed $1,491.11 in bad checks at County Fair Foods in Mitchell. Security footage allegedly shows James at the store passing the checks between Sept. 2 and Sept. 4. He was identified by comparing the security footage to a picture.
James was the primary account holder, with his mother as co-signer. His mother opened the checking account for him on Aug. 7 with a balance of $100.
The account never held more than $100, court documents say. It was closed on Aug. 28. Law enforcement could not confirm whether James knew the account was closed.
The charge carries a maximum penalty upon conviction of two years in prison, a $4,000 fine or both.
