Mitchell splits with Watertown
The Mitchell fastpitch softball team split its last home games of the year Sunday.
Watertown defeated Mitchell 9-7 in the first game of the doubleheader before the Kernels took the second game 11-6.
Kelli Schlimgen took the loss in the first game, going seven innings. She allowed nine runs, five hits and two walks.
"Again, errors were our own worst enemy," Mitchell coach Jim Misiaszek said. "We're not doing a good job taking care of the ball behind our starting pitcher. We need to clean that up if we want a chance at winning state this year."
Schlimgen (4-5) had a season-high 11 strikeouts.
Andrea Sheppard-Kauwalu went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Mitchell and Chelsea Berg was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Samantha Kayser (4-2) picked up the win in the second game. She threw all seven innings and allowed eight hits. She struck out one batter.
Sheppard-Kauwalu went 3-for-5, Courtney Moore went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Krista Huber went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Mitchell (9-10) plays Tuesday at Sioux Falls O'Gorman.
