Mitchell softball starts season 2-0
RAPID CITY -- The Mitchell High School fastpitch softball team got out to a quick start this season, winning a pair of games Friday.
The Kernels (0-2) swept Rapid City Central and Stevens, beating the Cobblers 3-1 and edging the Raiders 11-10.
Against Central, Hallie Misiaszek earned the win on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out six in seven innings. The Kernels had six hits in the contest.
In the victory over Stevens, Mitchell trailed 8-0 after two innings of play. The Kernels fought back and scored six runs in the third and tied the game in the fourth on a two-run homer by Abby Sudbeck.
Mitchell scored three runs in the six and held Stevens scoreless in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
Andrea Konz got the win, striking out four and allowing nine hits in six innings. Konz went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Kernels plays Rapid City Central and Stevens and Douglas, starting at 9 a.m. in Rapid City. Mitchell hosts Sioux Falls Roosevelt in a doubleheader in its home opener at 6 p.m. Monday at Dr. McWhirter Field in Mitchell.
