The Mitchell Aquatic Center closed early Wednesday due to fecal matter in the pool, according to Jamie Henkel, recreation coordinator for the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
The Mitchell Aquatic Center, located at 1201 E. Hanson Ave., closed at 3 p.m., which meant swimming lessons scheduled later in the night were also canceled. The aquatic center is typically open from 1 to 8:30 p.m. during the summer.
To clean the facility, staff will bring the pool's chlorine levels extremely high and then wait for them to return to normal on their own, Henkel said.
The pool will reopen for swimming lessons scheduled for this morning and then at 1 p.m. today as it normally would, Henkel said.
