Mitchell man hurt from cement truck tipover
PLANKINTON — A man suffered minor injuries when the cement truck he was driving Tuesday morning tipped over on Interstate 90 near Plankinton.
Samuel Wipf, 50, of Mitchell, was driving a cement truck west around 8 a.m. on I-90 when the driver’s side steering axle tire blew out, according to Sgt. Robert Mayer of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Wipf lost control of the truck and it tipped over onto its side in the median, about three miles east of Plankinton. Wipf was wearing his seat belt, but suffered minor injuries, Mayer said, and Plankinton Ambulance transported him to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Some cement spilled from the truck and the South Dakota Department of Transportation cleaned it up, Mayer said.
Aurora and Davison county sheriff’s offices also responded to the scene.
