A local man has been charged with identity theft and burglary for allegedly stealing another person's debit card and making $122.48 in purchases at businesses in Mitchell.

Cale Carl Bender, 27, of Mitchell, was arrested May 17 and charged with four counts of identity theft, a felony with a maximum punishment of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine. Bender is also charged with first-degree burglary, a felony with a maximum punishment of 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

According to court documents, the victim reported four unexpected charges to her debit card on April 19 and 20, one charge to Freedom Gas Station, two to M&H Gas Station and one to County Fair. The charges totaled $122.48.
