Mitchell man charged with taking painkillers

A Mitchell man is charged with possession of a controlled substance for allegedly taking several prescription painkillers from his girlfriend.

Jeffrey Johnson, 48, was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday after the Mitchell Police Division received a report of illegal drug use at a residence located at 512 N. Rowley St. According to court documents, Johnson's girlfriend told police that Johnson and a female friend took her Tramadol, a prescription painkiller, then crushed and snorted the pills. Johnson later admitted to taking at least seven of the pills, court documents say.

Johnson faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.
