Mitchell man arrested for assaulting 17-year-old girl
A Mitchell man was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday for allegedly attacking a 17-year-old girl in Mount Vernon.
George Jerry Bamsey, 26, is charged with drunken driving and aggravated assault after allegedly chasing, shoving and choking the 17-year-old victim.
When Davison County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the victim's home, the girl's mother had taken Bamsey's car keys. According to court documents, the girl's mother told the deputies Bamsey had driven to the home while "very intoxicated" and nearly hit her.
The deputies arrested Bamsey and spoke with those involved in the incident.
According to court documents, the 17-year-old victim told one of the deputies she was with a friend, Bamsey's girlfriend, at another home in Mount Vernon when Bamsey attacked her for no reason.
She ran away, but Bamsey caught her and allegedly threw her against a tree, then began choking her. The girl told the deputy she hit Bamsey as she tried to get away and he threatened to punch her, but then stopped and told her that he loved her.
Bamsey and the victim had only known each other for two days and were not in a relationship, court documents say.
According to the deputy's report, the girl had a large scrape on her left elbow, a 5-inch abrasion on her right arm, cuts on her right leg and marks on her neck and around her right eye.
Bamsey faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine if convicted of aggravated assault. He made his initial court appearance on Thursday.
