A new report shows Mitchell's jobless rate continued to decline in November.

According to data released Friday by the state Department of Labor, Mitchell's unemployment rate dropped to 3 percent last month, its lowest level in more than three years.

The drop in unemployment is a continuing trend for Mitchell, as this is the 10th consecutive month the unemployment rate has either declined or remained the same in the city.

The last time Mitchell's unemployment rate was at 3 percent or lower was October 2008, when it was 2.6 percent.

As unemployment continues to decline, the city's labor force continues to increase, with the total labor force in Mitchell reaching 8,960 people in November -- an increase of 285 people since the same time last year.

After the labor force reached its peak in July at 9,085 people, it declined in August and September.

Now on the rebound, November marked the second straight month Mitchell's labor force increased.

The November unemployment rate in Davison County was among the lowest in the state, tied with Aurora and Haakon counties for the fourth-lowest at 2.7 percent.

In Jerauld County, the 2 percent unemployment rate was the lowest in South Dakota last month.

The highest unemployment rate was recorded in Shannon County at 13.3 percent.

Buffalo County was the second-highest rate at 11.3 percent.

The city and county rates are not seasonally adjusted by the Department of Labor to remove impacts from seasonal labor trends in industries such as construction and tourism.

The comparable, non-seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate for November was 3.9 percent, and the national rate was 8.2 percent.
