Mitchell girls' soccer falls to Groton 3-0
The Mitchell girls' soccer team fell to Groton Area 3-0 Thursday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
Groton Area scored all three of its goals in the first 20 minutes of the game.
"I told my girls we played 60 minutes of pretty good soccer," Mitchell coach Kayla Braffet said. "The unfortunate part is the game is 80 minutes long. The other team capitalized on our mistakes, and we weren't able to capitalize when we had chances."
The Kernels had an opportunity to score on a penalty kick in the first half, but the ball hit off the bar. Mitchell forward Kayla Stangeland scored a goal in the second half, but it was negated on an offside penalty.
Mitchell (0-4-1) hits the field again at 3 p.m. Saturday as it hosts Sioux Falls Christian.
