The Kernels got off to a fast start with a 20-14 victory in a high-scoring affair with Sioux Falls O’Gorman. MHS pounded five homeruns in the win.

Jenna Skinner went 4-for-4 with two homeruns and six RBIs, while Hallie Misiaszek also went 4-for-4 with a homerun, four RBIs and picked up the win as the starting pitcher.

“It was one of the craziest games I have ever been a part of,” Mitchell coach Jim Misiaszek said. “Our defense struggled but the offense was able to pick it up.”

In the second round, Rapid City Stevens shut out the Ker-nels 11-0, as Hallie Misiaszek took the loss.

Against Brookings, the Ker-nels fell 10-2 as Hallie Misiaszek and Megan Zephier had the only RBIs for MHS.

In a rematch against O’Gorman in Mitchell’s final game of the day, the Kernel bats were not enough this time as Mitchell lost 12-5. Alyssa Green was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Hallie Misiaszek and Skinner each drove in a run.

Jim Misiaszek was pleased with how his young team per-formed and knows the experi-ence will help going into next season.

“We were inconsistent from game one to game four and that is a part of being a young ball club,” Jim Misiaszek said. “It was an excellent experience for these girls. We grew by leaps and bounds with this young club.”

The Kernels lose two seniors with Skinner and Alexis Blindauer graduating in the spring.

The final two rounds of the tournament will be played today in Sioux Falls.
