Mitchell fast pitch splits with Knights
The Mitchell fastpitch softball team split a pair of games with Sioux Falls O’Gorman Tuesday at Cadwell Park Sports Complex in Mitchell.
The Kernels took the first game 5-2 and dropped the second game to 6-5 in the ninth inning.
In the opening game, Mitchell scored four runs in the first inning. The Kernels were led by Hallie Misiaszek, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six in a complete game.
Misiaszek threw a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six. Jenna Skinner went 2-for-3 and Alyssa Green went 1-for-3 two RBIs for the Kernels.
“We’re starting to play better ball,” Mitchell head coach Jim Misiaszek said. “Our pitchers threw very well. We need to take one final step at the state tournament.”
The Kernels dropped the doubleheader finale in extras after O’Gorman scored on a base hit. At the end of seven innings, the teams were tied at 3. Both teams scored a run in the eighth.
The Kernels also added a run in the ninth but it was not enough to overcome the two O’Gorman runs. Andrea Konz took the loss for the Kernels. She allowed six runs on seven hits and struck out nine.
“Overall, it was a good night,” Jim Misiaszek said. “I think the girls are disappointed with the loss in game two but you learn a lot from a loss. We have two more practices and then the state tournament.”
Mitchell (5-18) plays in the Class AA state tournament Friday in Sioux Falls.
