Mitchell falls to Rushmore in overtime
The Mitchell Marlin girls’ hockey team allowed four third-period goals and fell 9-8 in overtime to Rushmore Friday at the Mitchell Activities Center.
The Thunder got the game-winning goal from Allie Burress just over 7 minutes into the extra period. The loss was the eighth straight for the Marlins.
Mitchell (1-11) had a 7-4 lead after Haley Stahl scored nearly 8 minutes into the third period, but Rushmore answered with four goals in less than three minutes to take the lead.
The Marlins got a hat trick from Stahl, who scored two in the third period. Stahl tied the game for the Marlins with 40 seconds to go in the third period to force overtime.
Kayla Murtha scored twice for the Marlins, while Kylie Barington, Michelle Wyatt and Emily Spates each added a goal. Barington had a game-high three assists, while Kaihlen Smith and Murtha each had two assists.
Rushmore was led by Abby Fenhaus-Coyle, who scored five goals and added two assists. Burress added two goals for the Thunder.
Mitchell will host the Thunder (3-10) for two more this weekend starting today at 6 p.m. at the MAC.
