Mitchell City Council OK with election vote count
Once again, Ken Tracy is the winner.
The Mitchell City Council examined returns from the June 5 election during a special meeting Tuesday and said it was satisfied with the results, which were finally determined after a second and third counting of the votes on Thursday.
The council always performs an official canvassing of ballots after each election.
The council declared Councilman Tracy the mayor-elect and said a 2011 council decision, halted from taking effect by a petition drive, to convert three streets from one-way traffic to two-way was overturned by voters. The turnout was 36 percent.
No recount has been requested, Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson said. The council did not discuss the counting problems that arose after the unofficial election returns were announced Tuesday night.
