“The girls played a very nice game tonight and played some good defense,” Golden Eagle coach Jackie Van Laecken said. “We got some turnovers early and were able to get ahead.”

The Golden Eagles were 16-of-36 for 44 percent from the field in the first half and the Crusaders shot just 22 percent. Mitchell Christian finished the game shooting 27-of-56 for 48 percent from the field. SBA shot 16-of-61 for 28 percent from the field in the game.

The Golden Eagles had three places score in double figures and were led by Cassidy Graham with a game-high 21 points. Alexa Van Laecken scored 18 points and six assists, while Ashley Schmit recorded a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Tricia Wilken scored a team-best 13 points for the Crusaders, who outrebounded the Golden Eagles 38-34. Reagan Erickson had 11 points and Cassie Beckwith brought down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles improved to 14-3 and host James Valley Christian today at Mitchell Christian School. With three games left in the regular season, Van Laecken said her team still needs to improve on both sides of the ball.

“Defensively, we need to keep forcing turnovers and shutting down key players,” she said. “Offensively, you’re always looking for good passing.”
