Mitchell Black splits DH with Watertown
WATERTOWN -- Mitchell Black earned a 4-2 win in the late game of a doubleheader Sunday in Watertown, salvaging a teener baseball split in the final action of the regular season.
Mitchell led 9-3 in the opener but ended up losing in the last inning, 10-9.
In the win, Carter Cavanaugh earned the pitching victory. He started the game and allowed no earned runs in three innings of work. He gave up one hit and one walk.
Sam Michels threw the final three innings, giving up two runs on six hits. He struck out one.
Jed Schmidt had a triple and double for Mitchell and Baley Miller had two singles.
In the opener, Elijah Pommer was the starter, allowing seven hits and three runs in three innings. He struck out one and walked one.
Miller took the loss, allowing eight hits. Schmidt also relieved.
Spencer Neugebauer had four hits while Michels had a double and single and Matt Muth had two singles. Parker Wenzel tripled.
Mitchell is 29-16 and enters state-tournament play Friday at Cadwell Park.
