Mitchell bicyclist injured in accident
A local man was injured when his bicycle collided with a car Monday night in Mitchell, authorities said.
Austin Podhrasky, 20, of Mitchell, was headed south on the sidewalk in the 700 block of South Sanborn Boulevard on a Schwinn 5-speed bicycle around 7:15 p.m. Monday night.
According to Mitchell Police Officer Kelly Loudenburg, Julie Bridge, 53, also of Mitchell, driving a 2010 Mazda 3, attempted to pull out of the parking lot of the Lone Tree Plaza onto Sanborn. Bridge’s vehicle was in the parking lot’s exit lane when Podhrasky’s bike struck the passenger side of the vehicle, traveled over the hood of the car, then came to a rest on Sanborn.
Loudenburg said Podhrasky was taken by family to Avera Queen of Peace with a possible fractured foot. There were minor damages to the car, and the bike is inoperable. He said there were no citations issued.
