Mitchell Area Safehouse gifted $25K
An anonymous donor gave $25,000 to the Mitchell Area Safehouse, employees said, allowing for facility upgrades in the play areas.
"We're excited," Shelter Coordinator Coleen Smith said.
The money will be used for the permanent fencing surrounding the two play areas and playground equipment for the safehouse. The country estate fence was installed and completed Tuesday morning. The new fence incorporates more security than the previous fence, which had space in between the wood allowing outsiders to peer in the play area.
The old fence was constructed along with the facility in 1999. The new fence is 6 feet high and estimated at 4,300 square feet. The total privacy fence is an ivory color and is a good grade of vinyl, according to Blair Gades, of BBBB Distributing, who assisted Bechen Fencing with the installation of the fence. Smith said the new fence also enhances the security, with the lock now on the inside of the fence.
New, commercial-grade playground equipment will replace the current playground by late August. The safehouse is in talks with Midwest Playscapes Inc. regarding installation of a new activity playground set.
"We're hoping to have the playground equipment by the end of summer, before the snow falls," Smith said.
