Minn., SD robbery suspects captured in Nebraska
COZAD, Neb. (AP) -- Two suspects sought by Minnesota and South Dakota authorities have been captured after a short highway chase in south-central Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol says the two were in a car being sought in a string of armed robberies. A trooper stopped the car Monday afternoon on U.S. Highway 30 near Cozad. As the trooper approached, the car sped off. But it soon stopped after developing engine trouble. The two occupants were arrested, and troopers say three handguns found in the car.
The driver was identified as 24-year-old Jarrod Birch, and his companion was 19-year-old Alyssa Beard. They're both from Virginia Beach, Va.
A jailer said they remained in Dawson County Jail on Tuesday, pending local prosecution or traveling to face potential charges in Minnesota and South Dakota.
