The South Dakota Girls' All-Star basketball game did not disappoint, as the South pulled away for an 84-60 win over the North Tuesday night at the Northern State Barnett Center.

The two teams set a blistering pace to the night, scoring on quick possessions in the opening two minutes of play. The South jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of offensive rebounds and buckets from Keely Bertram of Elk Point-Jefferson.

The North's Miranda Ristau, a Warner graduate and Northern State commitment, tied things up at four points apiece with buckets on back-to-back possessions. Ristau, playing on her soon-to-be home court, then had a key blocked shot that turned into a three-pointer at the other end to give the North a 7-4 lead.

From there, the race was on.

The South led 18-17 at the quarter break and extended it to a 41-30 lead by halftime thanks to a quiet 11 points by South Dakota State incoming freshman Macy Miller. Miller, of Mitchell, led an up-tempo pace by the South squad.

"That was the main thing in practice we talked about," Miller said. "Just push the ball. Eventually we're going to wear the other team out."

After the North squad cut into the South's lead and cut it to just a four-point game midway through the third quarter, the South shooters took over in the final stanza. The South out-scored the North 28-9 in the fourth quarter.

Miller finished with 21 points and six rebounds, while Bertram tallied a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double for the South.

The North was led by 11 points from Ristau and another 10 off the bench from Aberdeen Roncalli's Paige Sommers.
