FREMONT, Neb. — Despite 23 points from forward Jalen Voss, the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team fell to Midland University 84-77 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Saturday in Fremont, Neb.

The Tigers (5-6, 0-3 GPAC) are still looking for their first conference win of the season. The loss was the fourth straight for DWU.

Voss finished 11 of 16 from the field for his 23 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for the Tigers.

Mitchell native Jade Miller scored 17 for DWU, hitting 4 of 7 attempts from behind the 3-point line. Trae Bergh added 14 points and four 3-pointers in the loss.

Newcomer, Anthony Muilenburg played 24 minutes off the bench for first-year Tiger coach Matt Wilber. The former DWU football star scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and added three rebounds and two 3-pointers.

Marcus Franklin led the Warriors with 23 points and Ben Imig added 21 points in the seventh straight win for Midland.

The Warriors out rebounded the Tigers 30 to 28 and shot 22 free throws to the Tigers’ eight. DWU had 22 assists as a team, led by Tate Martin with eight, while Midland finished with 11 assists.

The Tigers may be getting close to getting Kris Menning back in the lineup. Menning, who has been out since he fractured his thumb in an exhibition against South Dakota State University prior to the start of the season, was shooting around at the team’s practice Friday.

The Tigers play Dordt College at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
