The Mitchell School District will likely alter its parking lot project at Mitchell Middle School as the lone bid was too high.

The district's Board of Education will meet tonight in regular session at 5 p.m. at the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy building.

The east parking lot project at Mitchell Middle School received one bid from Rexwinkel Construction for $174,394.32. The board agenda information says Superintendent Joe Graves will recommend the board reject all bids at the meeting.

On March 10, Graves informed the board that the district would replace most of its middle school parking lot. The agenda information now says the district is considering an asphalt installation bid and will decide that in the coming days.

Graves says the school expected a more competitive bidding environment on its parking lot reconstruction project.

Personnel

As part of the consent agenda, the following changes in personnel are before the board:

• Approve new hires: Michele Copeland for special education/MS at $38,000 per year, effective 2014-15 school year; Brittney Eide for seventh grade language arts at $45,000 per year, effective 2014-15 school year; Laretta McPeek for .5 FTE Begindergarten/LO at $16,875 per year, effective 2014-15 school year.

• Resignations: Erica Kobza for seventh grade language arts, pending approval of suitable replacement; Karen Jarding for general education/math instructor at MTI, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Kayla Braffet for seventh and eighth grade language arts, pending suitable replacement.

Other business

On the agenda for the board to approve includes:

• Approve bid from J & B Equipment Company for an overhead crane system totaling $69,275.

• Reject all tractor bids for a compact tractor for the Farm Power Program, as the initial bid statement was not clear enough regarding a cab.

• Approve, on second reading, MTI policy 448 regarding fixed asset inventory and requiring personal property requiring inventory have an expected useful life of one year, to meet state policy.

• Approve resolution to approve surplus property.

• Hear board member reports, superintendent's report and public commentary.
