MHS track runs final tuneup before state
HURON — The Mitchell boys and girls track teams have the same number of state qualifiers leaving their final meet of the regular season Thursday before the Class AA state meet as they had going into it, but Kernel coach Geoff Gross said a number of his athletes improved their positioning going into the state meet.
Gross said Ellie Rew improver her qualifying time in the 300-meter hurdles nearly half a second, while the girls mile relay also improved its time. Gross said the improvements could lead to better seeding at the Class AA state meet, which starts May 30 in Sioux Falls.
Gramm Johnson won the boys 100-meter dash for the Kernels with a time of 11.05 seconds, while Emma Schmidt took the girls 400-meter dash in 59.96 seconds.
