MHS students elected to state council
Three Mitchell High School students were recently elected to positions on the state student council association.
The students are Mason Wenzel, state president; Robert McCardle, James River Region sergeant-at-arms; and Shelby Riggs, treasurer for the James River Region.
The MHS students were among 745 students and advisors from 60 statewide high schools who attended the 26th annual state convention of the South Dakota Student Council Association March 24-26 in Pierre.
Other MHS students who attended the convention included Jacey Brunsen, Paige Grace, Jacob Rice, Stephanie Sanderson, Tiadra Simmermon and Shannon Weber.
MHS adviser Nancy Leach also attended.
The event focused on the theme "Tune into Leadership." Besides speakers and training, service was also a theme of the convention.
One statewide community service project produced 86 fleece blankets to be given to women and children in shelters, hospitals and nursing homes.
SDSCA leaders also presented checks raised as part of their spring "Children's Miracle Network" project during the state Legislature's closing session. The contributions included $1,142.01 raised by Mitchell students through a coin war.
