“I saw a lot more consistency from the girls,” Mitchell head gymnastics coach Audra Rew said. “We’re still trying to find our balance between new skills, but since we do have a little lead over teams right now, we have a little flexibility to try new skills.”

Yankton finished second with a 138.8 and Lincoln finished with a 129.2.

Junior Rebecca Sadler won her second meet of the season with an all-around score of 37.1 and was followed by junior Ellie Rew (36.7), sophomore Quinci Herll (36.15), sophomore Emily Prill (35.7) and freshman Josie Dierks (35.05). All of Mitchell’s all-around competitors each hit the state qualifying mark, which is a 35.0.

Audra Rew said Ellie Rew has been very consistent through the first three meets of the season.

“Ellie has been steady for us,” she said. “We put pressure on Quinci and Becca for a lot of new skills and our team is going to look for Ellie for consistent scores. They are right up there on every event.”

Another gymnast who showed promise for the future was seventh-grader Maria Krall. Krall competed vault and floor for the Kernel varsity squad, scoring a 9.0 on vault and a 9.25 on floor.

“I was happy that as a seventh-grader, she was composed during her routines tonight,” Rew said. “It was nice to see her step up with the varsity pressure.”

The Kernel JV squad set a school record for the second time this season. It recorded a team score of 130.0, beating last week’s score of 129.2.

“It just shows the future of our program,” Rew said. “We have so many kids that do great gymnastics and it just shows how experienced these kids are going to be when they get to varsity.”

Mitchell heads to compete in an invitational Saturday in Aberdeen.
