MC/VC boys' soccer team gets first win of season
Ethan Cooper scored four goals to help the Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon boys' soccer team defeat Chamberlain 5-1 Tuesday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
Cooper scored two goals in the first half and two in the second to ensure that MC/MV recorded its first win of the season.
"Ethan played to his strengths," MC/MV soccer coach Bob Lemon said. "He has a lot of natural speed and he was able to use that today. He was able to finally finish his shots. Early on he was rushing things, but he found his rhythm later on and I think it was a confidence boost for him."
At the half, MC/VC led Chamberlain 3-1. Ty Lloyd scored Chamberlain's lone goal, while Phillip Millar scored the other goal for MC/MV and had two assists.
"It was exciting for the guys," Lemon said. "I think we were fairly evenly matched as far as age and skills. We were excited to be able to finish. We had a lot of chances to shoot and finish.
"Up to this point, we have played a lot of defense, but today we were able to have some offense."
MC/MV (1-2-0) hits the field again against Freeman Academy at 7 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
