MCS boys snap losing streak with win over TDA
TRIPP — Ethan Cooper tied his season high in points to help the Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team beat Tripp-Delmont/Armour 51-48 Thursday.
Cooper scored 19 points and had three rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Chandler Nelson chipped in with 14 points and two rebounds.
“The kids came out ready to play,” said MCS boys’ basketball coach Dennis Martin, whose team snapped a four-game losing streak. “We talked all week about being mentally prepared and we came out, took an early lead and kept it going all night.”
Mitchell Christian was 17-of-45 from the field and Austin Bormann added 10 points. The Golden Eagles were outrebounded by the Nighthawks 27-18 but were able to capitalize off TDA’s 20 turnovers.
Cody Hrdlicka led the way for the Nighthawks (4-8) with 23 points, nine rebounds, two steals and one assist. He was the only TDA player to score in double figures as Shane Koster was the Nighthawks second leading scorer with nine points.
“I felt our defense was a big key to the game,” Martin said. “It makes a big difference on the offensive end when our defense can get things going.”
TDA, which was 19-of-46 from the field, won the JV game 23-17 and plays Gayville-Volin Saturday in Gayville. MCS hosts Wolsey-Wessington Monday at Mitchell Christian School.
