McGovern still in hospice; no new details emerging
SIOUX FALLS -- George McGovern remained in hospice care Tuesday in Sioux Falls, and no update was provided by his family or Avera, which operates the Dougherty Hospice House.
On Monday, his daughter Ann McGovern, of Sioux Falls, said her father was "coming to the end of his life."
News of the decision to place George McGovern, 90, into hospice swept across the country Monday night. It was prominent on websites, newspapers and TV reports.
McGovern has been living in Sioux Falls in recent months after giving up homes in Mitchell and in Florida as his health declined.
He was a two-term congressman and three-term senator from South Dakota and the 1972 Democratic presidential nominee. He was born in Avon and grew up in Mitchell.
