McGovern Conference in SD honoring namesake
MITCHELL (AP) -- The late George McGovern is being honored at an annual conference that carries his name.
The McGovern Conference on Monday at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell is beginning with a special tribute to McGovern, the former U.S. senator from South Dakota and three-time presidential candidate who died last month at the age of 90.
The conference is free and open to the public. This year's focus is on analyzing the possible fallout of recent negative campaigning and how Congress can best serve the nation in the coming decade. Keynote speakers are former Congressmen Gil Gutknecht of Minnesota and Max Sandlin of Texas.
The annual McGovern Conference focuses on issues McGovern was passionate about. He usually spoke at the event each year.
