Matthew D. Christiansen joins Avera Medical Group

Matthew Christiansen

Matthew D. Christiansen, Ph.D, a clinical psychologist, has joined Avera Medical Group in Mitchell.

Christiansen specializes in providing individual, family and couple’s counseling with extensive experience in counseling children. He will see patients at Avera Medical Group Family Medicine, 2200 N. Kimball, Suite 400, 996-7900.

Christiansen received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah; his master’s in general/experimental psychology from Idaho State University; and his Ph.D in clinical psychology from the University of South Dakota, and served a psychology internship at Wasatch Mental Health in Provo, Utah.

He completed a psychology residency at Dakota Counseling Institute in Mitchell in 2003 and worked as a licensed psychologist at Dakota Counseling until 2007. He worked for three years at the Primary Children’s Center for Counseling, Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and returned to Mitchell in 2010 to work at Abbott House. He currently serves as an adjunct professor of psychology at Dakota Wesleyan University and is a member of the Child Protection Team, serving as president in 2013.
