The Mitchell girls' junior varsity hockey team took fourth place and the Bantam A boys' team took eighth in their state hockey tournaments this weekend.

Sioux Falls' Hanna Mutschelknaus scored all five of the Flyers' goals as they went on to defeat the Mitchell JV girls' team 5-3 Saturday in Yankton.

Michelle Wyatt scored twice and Kylie Barington scored one goal in the loss. Jacey Brunsen, Kaihlen Smith and Ashley Zimmer each recorded an assist. Goalie Cara Beck made 21 saves.

The Marlins were shut out 4-0 by Rushmore Sunday. Beck made 22 saves in the game.

Mitchell's Bantam A team was defeated by Aberdeen 3-2 in overtime Saturday at the state tournament in Sioux Falls. Mitchell's Spencer Neugebauer scored both Mitchell goals, while Matt Muth had two assists and Bryce Geraets had one.

In Sunday's game, the Marlins lost 11-8 to Yankton. Jacob Thill and Muth each scored two goals, while Neugebauer scored two goals and four assists. Jesse Grodidier and Kobe Ischen scored one.
