Marilyn Renee Kass was born October 15, 1930 to Hilda and Michael Kass in Le Mars, IA. She moved to the Farmer, SD area at an early age. The oldest of four children, she learned how to care for others after losing her mother at age 14. Marilyn graduated from Salem St. Mary's High School. She met Leon Feterl, her partner for life, in her teenage years and they were happily married for 57 years until his passing in 2010. They resided in Salem until 2005.

A kind and generous lady, deep in faith, raised eight children and supported her husband in his businesses and worked on and off throughout her life in Salem at McKay's Law Office, Degner Chevrolet, and Garry Insurance. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, playing cards, baking, providing meals for her family and volunteering in her church and community. Living her faith daily, she stayed active in St. Mary's Altar Society, Catholic Foresters, Christian Mothers and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her influence was very positive as she guided her children into adulthood and beyond with her values.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sons, David and Daniel. Survivors include daughters, Mary Louise (Louie) Feterl (Dar Rahder) of Rapid City, Margie (Jeff) Schmitz of Apple Valley, MN, Marcine Feterl of Burnsville, MN, Molly Feterl (Ruth Lindeman) of Burnsville, MN, sons Doug (Kim) Feterl of Rapid City, and Darryl (Mary) Feterl of Eagan, MN; grandchildren Jessi (Kasey) Keller, Lyndsy Kinghorn, Tina Kinghorn, Jordan Feterl, Tanner Feterl, Katie Feterl, Savannah Feterl, and Kassidy Schmitz; great-grandson Noah Keller; daughter-in-laws Barb (David) Feterl and Alice (Dan) Feterl; sister Jeanette Koch of Salem, and brothers Ken Kass of Omaha, NE and Richard (Connie) Kass of St. Paul, MN.
