In 1936, she met and married Herb Gromer. They had three children, Elvera, Ida, and Don. While in the Hamill area they engaged in farming and Maggie cooked at the Hamill School. In 2002, she was recognized for meritorious service in the volunteer category by the South Dakota Hospice Organization. Through her career she also received other awards and recognition for her care and compassion to others.

For the last several years, Maggie has been a resident at the Elder Inn where she has been cared for with much kindness and respect.
