Managing the Margins Workshop in Mitchell
BROOKINGS -- South Dakota State University Extension invites you to a Managing the Margin Workshop focused on market and risk decisions South Dakota producers will need to make this year from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on March 20 at the SDSU Extension Regional Center on the Mitchell Technical Institute campus in the Trades Center building.
The workshop will be an interactive learning experience, where producers can discuss different strategies and express their risk tolerance. Each class is divided into two sessions.
The first session will cover market outlook for old and new crops (corn, soybeans, and wheat), local cash price forecasts, and the new farm bill program options. The first session will also discuss the potential profitability and risk associated with different crop planting mixes and grain storage scenarios.
The second session will include a discussion on futures and options marketing strategies that can be used in pre- and post- harvest marketing to add premiums and/or reduce risk. It also will include historical performances of option and future strategies in marketing years with similar supply and demand fundamentals.
Registration will be $10 on-site, payable by check only, and begins 30 minutes before the workshop. Pizza and pop will be provided.
