PIERRE (AP) — A Chicago man traveling the Missouri River this summer on a stand-up paddleboard figures he'll use about a million strokes from Three Forks, Mont., to St. Louis.

During a recent stop in Pierre, Scott Mestrezat told the Capital Journal that said Lake Oahe was brutal and probably the most difficult part of the trip so far.

His board is from a kit. It's about 14 feet long, about 30 inches wide and 7 inches deep. He carries about 80 pounds of gear strapped to the top of the board, including a solar panel that powers his electronics.

The 27-year-old is documenting the 2,300-mile trip with video and still photos.

Mestrezat says he hopes to finish the trip in about three months.
