Man charged with illegally having firearm
A Mitchell man is accused of possessing a firearm with prior convictions for violent crimes.
Joshua Benson, 26, was arrested Jan. 27 after police allegedly found a rifl e, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside his residence, located at 611 E. Sixth Ave. Benson was convicted of burglary and aggravated assault in November 2008 and therefore is no longer allowed to possess a firearm.
He is charged with illegally possessing a firearm, a felony, and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
He faces a maximum of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine for the firearm charge.
