A man working construction in Mitchell led a Davison County sheriff’s deputy on a short foot pursuit last week.

Peter Friese Jr., 29, sped by Deputy Cory Shamatt on Sept. 13 going about 47 mph on Sanborn Boulevard, which is a 30 mph zone.

“I was monitoring traffic there,” Shamatt said. “So I turned around and tried to get him to pull over. He sped onto First Avenue and went around the corner at a high rate of speed. He finally pulled over on Edmunds.”

At that point, Friese ran from his car and Shamatt pursued him for a short distance, but did not catch Friese.

The next day, however, Friese reported that someone took his vehicle, it was towed and he wanted to get it back. After an interview with Shamatt, Friese allegedly confessed to being the driver and the one who fled from Shamatt the night before.

On Saturday, Shamatt arrested Friese, who didn’t have an ID, and charged him with speeding, no driver’s license, eluding police and obstruction of law enforcement, all misdemeanors.
