In mid-April, the Mitchell Police Division had a 2007 Chevy pickup towed from an area just east of the intersection of North Harmon Drive and National Guard Road on the north side of Mitchell. Officer Dan Fechner smelled burnt marijuana from the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, which was unoccupied, law enforcement found a small safe lying on the front passenger floorboard and a jar containing marijuana, a grinder and a plastic bag containing eight pills. Minnick told law enforcement the pills were hydrocodone and he received those pills from a friend. Minnick said he took one of the pills and that the marijuana belonged to him.

The charge carries a maximum penalty upon conviction of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
