Mad Dogs get walk-off homer for win
The Mitchell Mad Dogs defeated Dimock/Emery in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game Sunday at Cadwell Park.
Brett Young hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Mitchell a season-opening, 7-6 win.
Young started for the Mad Dogs, throwing six innings and giving up three runs. Jason Skinner picked up the win.
For the Raptors, Doug Sudbeck started, throwing six innings and allowing three runs. Matt Luckey came in and finished the game to pick up the loss.
Phil Johnson had a two-run homer and three RBIs for the Raptors and Sam Pischke had two runs on two singles.
Beau Van Overschelde had two doubles and a single and Young had the same with the addition of the homer.
Mitchell is 1-0 and hosts the Sioux Falls Saints at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cadwell Park.
Parkston Mudcats 11, Platte 9
PLATTE -- The Parkston Mudcats defeated the Platte Killer Tomatoes 11-9 in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game Sunday in Platte.
Brady Nolz pitched 7.1 innings for the Mudcats, striking out 13 batters and allowing eight hits. He walked four and picked up the win.
Spencer Freudenthal had four hits, including a home run.
For Platte, Rick Sternberg was tagged with the loss. He threw seven innings and Miles Kupier had two doubles and a single.
Parkston is 3-0 and plays in Canova Wednesday. Platte is 2-1.
Geddes 12, Parkston Bullheads 0
PARKSTON -- The Geddes Ballrockers defeated the Parkston Bullheads 12-0 in seven innings Sunday in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
Travis Gant was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings and striking out seven. He allowed two hits.
Jim Sudbeck was tagged with the loss, throwing 5.1 innings.
For Geddes, Ryan Paulson went 3-for-4 with two doubles and Mike Slaba had two singles.
Parkston's Chad Neugebauer had two singles.
Geddes (1-0) plays in Parkston against the Mudcats at 6 p.m. Sunday.
