Loretta Lynn, who has written and performed a string of country-music hits in a career that dates to the early 1960s, is among the entertainers scheduled to perform at the 2011 Corn Palace Festival.

Mark Schilling, director of the Corn Palace, announced the acts Friday morning. Tickets will go on sale next Friday.

Lynn's hits include "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)" and "Don't Come Home A Drinkin (with Lovin' on Your Mind)," among others. Her life and career were outlined in the 1980s hit movie "Coal Miner's Daughter," which also is the title of Lynn's signature song. She will perform Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the Corn Palace.

Lynn follows in the footsteps of other long-established country singers who've played the Palace in recent years, including Willie Nelson, the Oak Ridge Boys, Kenny Rogers and George Jones. All of those shows were sellouts or near-sellouts.

"It follows that pattern," Schilling said, "and we've had good success with those artists."

Lynn's booking on a Tuesday is a rarity. Schilling said it was the only day that worked with her routing. So, while her show will kick off the week's events, the bulk of the festival's schedule won't begin until its usual Wednesday start date. The festival continues through Sunday, Aug. 28.

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, Josh Turner will bring a contemporary country flair to the Palace. Turner was named by People magazine as one of country music's hottest stars and is famous for his deep voice and hits such as "Long Black Train," "Your Man" and "Why Don't We Just Dance." Opening for Turner will be The Band Perry, which is enjoying success with its first hit single, "If I Die Young."

The Saturday, Aug. 27, show is The Happy Together Tour, which features several 1960s pop stars, including the Turtles featuring Flo and Eddie, the Association, the Grass Roots, the Buckinghams and Mark Lindsay, former lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Schilling said the Corn Palace Festival Committee is still considering acts for Thursday, Friday and possibly Sunday of festival week.

Tickets for the shows announced so far go on sale at 7 a.m. Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at cornpalace.com, in person at the Corn Palace box office, or by phone at (800) 289-7469.

Tickets are $35 for Loretta Lynn, $45 for Josh Turner and The Band Perry, and $45 for The Happy Together Tour.
