Lotar Goehring, 90, died at the Good Samaritan Center in Tripp, SD on Saturday, August 24, 2013. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Delmont. Visitation will Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6 - 8 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Chapel in Delmont with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. There will be a family burial service at a later date.
Lotar Goehring was born on May 13,1923 to Alvin and Margaret (Fink) Goehring on his parents farm north of Delmont, SD. He attended country school near Delmont and graduated from Delmont High School in 1941. He farmed with his dad for a short time before entering the U.S. Army where he was a member for the Army Band. After he was discharged he returned to Delmont where he farmed. He married Luella Herr at Friedens Reformed Church February 1st, 1953 in Tripp by Rev. Walter Odenbach. Together they farmed north of Delmont until retiring in 1990 when they moved east of Delmont across from the Delmont Golf Course. Lotar mowed the Delmont Golf Corse for nearly 20 years after retirement. He was a member of the Kaufman Band in his youth, United Church of Christ in Delmont where he held various offices and taught Sunday School, 4-H in his youth and was a 4-H leader for 55 years, American Legion in Delmont, and Sodak Stamm German-Russia Heritage Society where he was treasurer for many years. He was recognized for meritorious service to 4-H by the State of South Dakota and in 2002 was presented a plaque by the Delmont Community Club in appreciation of his outstanding lifetime volunteer service to the community of Delmont. He also served as chairman of the Delmont Centennial book committee which he researched and wrote the 1986 Delmont Centennial Book. He enjoyed reading, researching and studying genealogy, and golfing. He died at the Good Samaritan Center in Tripp on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the age of 90.
He is survived by his wife, Luella of Tripp, 3 sons, Donavan (Nya) Goehring of Delmont SD, Michael ( Bobbie) Goehring of Delmont, SD, and Owen (Rita) Goehring of Tripp,SD, brother Marvin (Shirley) Goehring of Parkston, SD, 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Mildred and Lucilla in infancy.
