Lola Clift, 97, Mitchell, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be Monday, October 21, 2013, 11:00 AM, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Lola Rosella Clift was born April 26, 1916, at the family homestead in Chester, MT, to Fred and Florence (Mack) Long. Due to her mother's sudden death the family moved back to Chamberlain, SD, where she was raised with the help of her grandparents until her father was re-married to Florence McGee. Lola attended school in Chamberlain and Kimball and graduated from Winner High School prior to coming to Mitchell for the rest of her life. She married Wesley Kinyon and had two children, Daniel Kinyon and Shirley Kinyon Lohnes. Later she married Claude Clift adding two daughters, Muriel Clift Small and Claudette Clift Green.
Lola's employment was with the Widman and Robert's Cafs, manager of Chef Louie's Restaurant, and the office staff of Geyerman's Clothing. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, United Commercial Travelers, and the Auxiliaries of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, Methodist Hospital and Elks. She did volunteer work at the Dakota Discovery Museum, the Mitchell Public Schools, was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and played the piano for the UTC.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley Lohnes of Mitchell, one brother, Tom Long of Centennial, CO, 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and four siblings: James Long, Alfred Long, Mary (Long) Sawyer and Dorothea Long, her husband, Claude Clift, two daughters, Claudette Clift Green, Muriel Clift Small, one grandson, Ron Biegert and her son, Daniel James Kinyon.
