Lockhart second in barrel racing through five rounds at NFR

LAS VEGAS — South Dakota cowgirl Lisa Lockhart has had a strong first half of the National Finals Rodeo.

Lockhart, of Oelrichs, sits in second place in the barrel racing average after five rounds and has five rounds remaining. Her average after five rounds is 69.64 and she won the fifth round with a score of 13.72. She also placed fifth in the second round and is eighth in the world standings in barrel racing.

Two other South Dakota cowboys are competing in saddle bronc in Las Vegas. After five rounds, Chad Ferley, of Oelrichs, is in seventh in the average with a score of 320.5. He recorded four scores in five tries and won the second round with a score of 87.5. Ferley is fifth in the world standings in saddle bronc.

Cole Elshere, of Faith, is also entered in the saddle bronc event and is in 14th. His best ride was in round three when he recorded a score of 80.5.

The NFR began Dec. 5 and concludes Saturday.
