Local woman denies marijuana charges
A Mitchell woman arrested in January after law enforcement allegedly found more than 5 pounds of marijuana in her residence appeared in court Tuesday to plead not guilty possession of the drug.
Melissa Schuppan, 24, is charged with possession of more than 1 pound but less than 10 pounds of marijuana, a felony with a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Law enforcement allegedly found approximately 5.5 pounds of marijuana in a search of Schuppan's residence, which is located at 1109 S. Rowley St.
Schuppan is scheduled to stand trial in August.
Jared Nespor, 23, was also arrested as a result of the search but did not appear in court Tuesday.
