LETTER: Vets should get same support as tourism
To the Editor:
I found it interesting that the state government was able to find funds and make arrangements with the National Park Service to open Mount Rushmore during the shutdown period when, at the undersigned’s suggestion, the governor found it not possible to provide our public defenders (the Air and Army National Guard) with monies to cover the period of time when they had no income due to sequestration.
Could no arrangements be made with the Department of Defense to loan said department some of the state’s surplus monies to cover the losses of these heroic individuals? Or was this in the “too hard to do” category? Or was tourism more important to the governor than national security?
