LETTER: Stevens possesses skills for the job
To the Editor:
I am writing in support of Dave Stevens as District 20 representative to the Legislature. I have had the opportunity to see Dave at work in several capacities, and know him to be a worthy representative for our district.
Dave was team leader for a group of young South Dakota professionals on a Rotary Group Study Exchange to India three years ago. As I was a member of a Group Study Exchange to Brazil, I became very aware of the skills needed by the team leader in that setting: a tremendous amount of detailed organization, the ability to instill teamwork in others, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with persons of varied backgrounds and cultures. I know Dave to possess all of these skills.
Through my business connections with the Mitchell Area United Way, I have seen first-hand Dave’s commitment, leadership and his ability to organize so many groups of volunteers so the work of multiple non-profit groups in our communities can be successfully supported. Dave’s advocacy for achieving the goals of others, his energy, deep compassion and commitment are all evident.
As president of Mitchell Rotary, I was able to work with Dave in yet another capacity. Dave was assistant district governor, with responsibility for multiple Rotary clubs. In that capacity, I knew Dave to listen, be supportive and to offer positive ideas as I carried out my duties as president. Mitchell Rotary is associated with a junior club at our Second Chance School, and Dave has volunteered to teach lifelong skills to the students, which was very much appreciated.
I believe Dave to be a strong leader and a solid choice as a Representative of our district’s citizens in the Legislature.
