LETTER: Past United Way leaders stand behind Stevens
To the Editor:
As past presidents of the Mitchell Area United Way, we are pleased to offer our support for Dave Stevens to represent the citizens of District 20 in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
In his role as executive director of the Mitchell Area United Way, we were able to witness in Dave Stevens many of the attributes that would make him a capable member of our Legislature. First and foremost, Dave has a genuine commitment to the betterment of our communities and our state. He volunteers his time and energy to many community groups and activities beyond the scope of his duties with United Way.
As United Way director, Dave has exhibited strong leadership skills. His leadership style is one of inclusion. He has worked hard to see that the varied segments of businesses and organizations of the Mitchell area have representation on the United Way Board of Directors.
The United Way Campaign requires a tremendous amount of detailed organization, and Dave works behind the scenes organizing all of the tasks to be done. He instills the sense of teamwork in others, keeps the group focused on the goals and gets the job done.
Dave works closely with and understands the workings of our area businesses and community organizations. He makes sound decisions, and includes others when consensus is needed to accomplish goals.
We believe Dave Stevens has the knowledge, the skills and the commitment to represent our district in the Legislature. His ability to work with people from varied backgrounds in solving problems and achieving goals will serve us well.
