LETTER: Mike Rounds right man for Senate
To the Editor:
All South Dakotans would agree that Washington, D.C., is a mess -- and if they don't, they're kidding themselves. You don't have to be a conservative to comprehend the impending doom of Obamacare, the sting of unemployment or the anxiety over the increasing national debt. Even as a college student, I am terrified of where our country is heading. Living in a state that has a record of low unemployment, low tax rates and balanced budgets, I find myself wondering why Washington can't follow South Dakota's example.
Going to school at Augustana has provided me with the opportunity to engage in the political atmosphere, especially for the United States Senate race. After personally meeting former Gov. Mike Rounds and volunteering in his office, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the man for the job. In two terms, Gov. Rounds created 28,000 jobs, increased state reserves, created more scholarship programs for students and was responsible for $80 million more per year for K-12 education from 2003 to 2010.
Besides that, Gov. Rounds is a genuine and honest candidate, who truly cares for his constituents and is sincerely concerned about our nation's future. In one of the most vital elections for Republicans, the choice is obvious. We need to retake the U.S. Senate this November. Mike Rounds has more experience than any other candidate. Rounds will bring this South Dakota common sense to Washington, where it is so critically needed.
