LETTER: Legislature making decisions blindly
To the Editor:
The Legislature supports a secretive government to put blinders over the public’s eyes, and those blinders are now covering their own. In 2010, the state blindly agreed to completely change our education system to Common Core standards, without an analysis of the costs. Four years later, our Legislature presented HB 1214 to require a study and analysis of the costs associated with these drastic mandates on our local school districts.
Representatives Bartling, Hawks, Stevens, Johns, Ring, Tulson, Ecklund and Tyler voted to not even take a look at what those costs were. The complete lack of financial responsibility from these legislators comes as no surprise, with the support of programs like EB-5 that squander millions. Today, they have chosen to give an unlimited budget, with no vision of how to make these changes.
